The four prerelease promo cards for Chaos Rising’s Build & Battle Boxes have been revealed, and they make for a notably unusual lineup.
According to PokeBeach, Crobat and Goodra were first spotted as alternate art promos in Traditional Chinese — distributed to players who win three rounds of Ninja Spinner tournaments in Hong Kong and Taiwan — with the other two promos, Ampharos and Delphox, later confirmed from the Ninja Spinner Value Pack also released in those regions. PokeBeach notes that whenever alternate art promos have released in Traditional Chinese, they have always been repurposed as English prerelease promos. As PokeBeach pointed out, this marks the first time a prerelease has featured all four promos as Stage 2 Pokémon — a genuinely unprecedented situation in the game’s history.
Each Build & Battle Box includes four Chaos Rising booster packs and a 40-card ready-to-play deck, with one of the four stamped foil promos randomly included. In terms of gameplay, Delphox brings an energy-accelerating Energized Storm attack that scales in damage the more Energy is on the field; Ampharos’s Flashing Bolt can hit up to 220 damage if you match your opponent’s hand size, making Judge a natural partner; Crobat’s Nighttime Maneuvers Ability lets you stack the top of your deck while in the Active Spot; and Goodra hits hard with Dragon Pulse at 160 damage, though it requires two different Energy types to pull off. Prereleases run from May 9th through May 17th at participating local game stores — use the Pokémon Event Locator to find one near you.
