‘Tis Time
I should’ve known a new set was going to be released, my spidey senses were tingling and the pulls from Shining Revelry were dwindling. But for some reason when I opened the app and it said “update” I didn’t think anything of it.
When TCG Pocket launched and there were two packs with two different artworks, I was ready! Then I opened a pack and realized, maybe I wasn’t ready.
This is a gigantic set, with over 155 cards to pull. When you account for the special ☆ cards and up, there’s a whopping 239 cards if you want to collect ’em all. And as with Space-Time Smackdown and Genetic Apex, you can only pull certain cards based on the pack art you choose to open. I have a feeling we’ll be counting down the days until the trading feature is updated if we want to stand a chance to complete this set.
Fan favorites and new Pokemon make their appearance which is going to add a fun dimension to battles. But I’m more excited about the Alolan artworks – gimme that rainbow Muk!
The deets
The set is fairly evenly distributed by energy type, with grass and psychic getting the most love and, as always, dragon and metal getting the least. There are six completely new items and tools – Rare Candy is choice and making its way into all of my deck builds.
But let’s talk about the artworks, oh my goodness they are gorgeous! Read on for some of our favorite highlights:
Okacheke graces us with a beautiful full set of guardian dieties: Tapu Bulu, Tapu Fini, Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele. Honestly this are stunning and I’m a little mad we won’t be able to get these artworks as real card arts because they might be my favorite version of these Pokemon.
If you’re more a fan of “cutesy” artwork then there are cards for you: Pikipek, Comfey, Cutiefly, Alolan Raichu ex, and Rockruff are serving the adorable.
As with Shining Revelry we’re still getting ✷ and ✷✷ shiny artworks. This time the full Venusaur and Blastoise evolution lines get love since we got Charizard last time. Pokefang is especially excited for and voraciously opening packs since Gengar’s full evolution line is also available in shiny and shiny ex form.
It’s a great set and we’re happy they went with Solgaleo and Lunala legendaries – I just hope we have longer than a month to try and pull as many cards as possible before the next set drops. It’s getting impossible to keep up.
