Gamestop Stops Pre-orders Starts Selling Products At Scalper Market Value

This is why we can’t have nice things…

GameStop has recently announced significant changes to its Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) sales approach. As of February 21, 2025, the retailer will no longer accept pre-orders for Pokémon TCG products, both online and in-store. This decision aims to increase in-store foot traffic and provide more customers with the opportunity to purchase these high-demand items. Additionally, GameStop has implemented purchase limits on select Pokémon TCG products to deter resellers and ensure broader customer access.

In tandem with these policy changes, GameStop has adjusted its pricing strategy for Pokémon TCG items. The company is now aligning its prices more closely with current market values rather than adhering to the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). For instance, Obsidian Flames Elite Trainer Boxes are priced at $81.99, Crown Zenith Elite Trainer Boxes at $104.99, and 151 bundles at $39.99. These price points reflect the retailer’s response to the heightened demand and limited supply of Pokémon TCG products.

These changes have elicited varied reactions from the Pokémon community. While some appreciate the efforts to curb bulk purchasing by resellers, others express concern that the elimination of pre-orders and increased prices may disadvantage dedicated fans and collectors. The long-term impact of GameStop’s new policies on customer satisfaction and the broader trading card market remains to be observed.

However, I commit that this sucks for everyone.
