What Happened?
So, The Pokémon Company released a public statement today acknowledging the ongoing shortages across the Pokémon TCG product line. According to the notice, the issue stems from continued high demand, which has outpaced supply for select expansions and product types.
No specific sets were named, and there are no confirmed timelines for restocks. The company said reprints are already underway at maximum production capacity. They expect the product to return to shelves “as soon as possible,” but didn’t attach any dates. New expansions moving forward will have larger initial print runs to try and match demand from launch.
Reprints and restocks will likely hit both major retail channels and Pokémon Center in waves (hopefully that includes LGS/LCS’s). For Pokémon Center specifically, the current virtual queue system will remain in place for high-traffic drops. They also mentioned backend tech upgrades are helping prioritize real fans during checkout, though no further details were offered. More improvements are apparently in development.
From The Pokémon Company:
“We’re aware that some fans are experiencing difficulties purchasing certain Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) products due to very high demand impacting availability. We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokémon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity to acknowledge this. Reprinted products are expected to be available at participating retailers as soon as possible.
For new Pokémon TCG expansions launching in the future, we are maximizing production to increase product availability upon release, and we will continue to reprint impacted products to replenish stock at participating retailers, including Pokémon Center, as soon as possible.
For Pokémon TCG product releases at Pokémon Center, we are committed to providing a smooth purchasing experience and employ technology that helps get products into the hands of fans first and foremost. Currently, Pokémon Center implements a virtual queue for certain products to help provide a more seamless purchasing process during periods of increased site traffic. We will continue to explore measures that help create the best possible experience for Pokémon Center customers.
We’d like to thank the community for their continued support and patience as we work to deliver more Pokémon TCG products to fans.
The Pokémon Company“
In short, The Pokémon Company knows the shelves are empty. They’re printing more, but there’s no timeline. If you’re waiting on a restock, expect it to show up quietly—no fanfare, no announcements, just stock appearing when it’s ready.
